Imperial® Veneer Basecoat + Finish: Old‑World Walls Without Paint

Imperial® Veneer Basecoat was designed as a high‑strength base for veneer plaster systems. We use it exactly that way—as the base—then apply a hand‑troweled finish coat that becomes your final surface. The result is a durable, character‑rich wall with no Level 4/5, no primer, and no paint.

What This System Replaces

Our Two‑Coat Workflow

1) Basecoat (Imperial®)

Applied over ultralight gypsum drywall prepared to receive plaster. This coat levels, bonds, and builds strength for the finish.

2) Finish Coat

A hand‑troweled decorative layer that sets the look—subtle trowel marks, soft movement, and tonal depth. This is the visible, final surface.

Note: The basecoat is not left exposed. The finish coat provides the color and character while the basecoat provides the backbone.

The Look: Purposeful Imperfection

Instead of paint‑flat uniformity, this finish embraces the artisan hand—gentle waves, feathered edges, and light‑catching trowel traces. It’s ideal for farmhouse, historic, and European‑inspired interiors seeking warmth and authenticity.
