Textured Plaster Finishes for Designers: Smooth Matte, Fluted, and Linear

Textured plaster is having a moment with designers who want architectural character without noise. Our textures can be smooth and matte or more pronounced—like fluted and linear ridges—and can be executed as matte lime plasters or as polished Venetian plaster for sheen.

Stone plaster ridged texture — freehand ridges with natural aggregates, matte finish
Stone Plaster Ridged — carved, freehand ridges with a matte, stone-like presence.
Veneer plaster linear texture — smooth striations with refined movement, matte finish
Veneer Plaster Linear — smooth, linear striations for a refined, directional look.

How We Build Texture

Using a trowel (or spatula), we freehand the surface to create subtle “bumps” and ridge lines. After setting, we smooth and recoat with the same material to unify tone and soften edges. Designer profiles typically range from about 1/8 inch to 3/8 inch, scaled to the space and lighting. Textures can be run horizontally or vertically: vertical fluting elongates walls and frames openings; horizontal lines read calmer and can visually widen corridors.

Profiles

Approx. 1/8–3/8 in. ridge height; linear, waved, or freehand fluted options.

Color

Match to Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams fan decks; custom tones available.

Sheen

Matte mineral finishes, or Venetian plaster polished to a soft sheen or high gloss.

Applications

Feature walls, powder rooms, fireplaces, ceilings, niches, and gallery corridors.

Orientation

Specify vertical or horizontal layouts; waved or cross-hatch variants available.

Design Directions: Ridged vs. Linear

Stone Plaster Ridged reads sculptural and organic—great for monolithic fireplace walls or gallery entries, and works vertical or horizontal. Veneer Plaster Linear offers quieter, directional movement ideal for hospitality corridors, boutique retail, or serene primary suites—also effective in vertical runs for height.

Matte or Polished Venetian

Every texture can be specified matte or executed in Venetian plaster and polished. Polished surfaces reflect light, amplifying the rhythm of flutes and striations while maintaining a refined, clean read.

FAQ

Can you color match designer palettes?
Yes. We routinely match Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams, including custom formulas.
Where are textures most successful?
Accent walls, ceilings, fireplace surrounds, and long corridors—anywhere rhythm and shadow add depth without clutter.
Will the surface feel rough?
Edges are softened during smoothing and recoat stages. You’ll feel a gentle topography rather than sharp edges.
